The Cloud Crown is an anti-rivalry between two Peninsula Expansion League teams, the 
Sand City Sidewinders
and the 
Aptos Investigators
, who both enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach, and sharks.
All matches between these two rival teams are held at sunset on a beach that is nearby a known Great White Shark breeding ground. Before each match, there is a ceremonial feeding of the sharks, in which teams use catapults to launch fish steaks into the sea to attract Great White Sharks. Games routinely carry on late into the night, and players for the Sidewinders or Investigators are routinely swept out to sea during matches.
Among the players for the Sidewinders and Investigators, it is considered a great honor to be swept out to sea and consumed by sharks; both clubs maintain a Hall of Legends at their clubhouse, where they honor those players who have become shark food during the Sunset Crown.
