The Boylston Boogers replaced the Atlanta Glitter Sharks in the Hot Water league, surprising their frenemies since childhood, the Alewife Arsonists . The two immediately established the MTA Crown as the seasonal competition between the two teams.

The Boylston Boogers are based at the Boylston Street station, on the Boston Metro Transit Authority (MTA) Green Line. The Alewife Arsonists are based at the Alewife station, on the MTA Red Line. Despite their surface-level conflict and fights, the two teams are deeply connected. Both teams hail from Boston, but both teams are too proud of their home subway stations to accept the general blanket label "Boston". Both teams are on subway lines that are important parts of Boston's transportation network, and many residents and visitors moving through the city of Boston pass through the Alewife and Boylston Street stations.

Most people unaware of the existence of the MTA, the Red Line, the Green Line, or even (in some cases) of Boston in general are confused by back-and-forth banter between Arsonists fans and Boogers fans, which usually follows a formula like "One day, the red train and the green train were both traveling through the city on their separate tracks, each trying to outdo the other. As they approached a particularly narrow section of track, the red train pushed itself to the limit, determined to pull ahead of the green train. But the green train was not about to give up so easily. Its engines roared as it picked up speed, closing the gap between the two trains. The passengers on both trains held their breath as the two trains raced towards the top of the hill, neck and neck. At the very last moment, the green train pulled ahead, crossing the finish line just inches ahead of the red train. The passengers on the green train cheered and celebrated their victory, while those on the red train grumbled and complained about their loss." However, the rivalry between the Arsonists and Boogers is near and dear to the hearts of all Golly fans in or around Boston, and as a major media market, this means it is also important to the Commissioner of Golly.
