The {{CTeam|BB}} are based at the Boylston Street station, on the Boston Metro Transit Authority (MTA) Green Line. The {{CTeam|AA}} are based at the Alewife station, on the MTA Red Line. Despite their surface-level conflict and fights, the two teams are deeply connected. Both teams hail from Boston, but both teams are too proud of their home subway stations to accept the general blanket label "Boston". Both teams are on subway lines that are important parts of Boston's transportation network, and many residents and visitors moving through the city of Boston pass through the Alewife and Boylston Street stations.

Many people living outside of Boston are unaware of the existence of the MTA, the Red Line, the Green Line, or even Boston in general. For those from outside of Boston ("Outsiders"), the Red Line and Green Line may very well be indistinguishable, except for the color. Outsiders may become confused by the formulaic use of "red" and "green" interchangeably during back-and-forth banter between Arsonists fans and Boogers fans. Here is a common example of a story:

The two teams have been connected for their entire existence, and both teams' fan bases are from Boston. One day, the red train and the green train were both traveling through the city on their separate tracks, each trying to outdo the other. As they approached a particularly narrow section of track, the red train pushed itself to the limit, determined to pull ahead of the green train. But the green train was not about to give up so easily. Its engines roared as it picked up speed, closing the gap between the two trains. The passengers on both trains held their breath as the two trains raced towards the top of the hill, neck and neck. At the very last moment, the green train pulled ahead, crossing the finish line just inches ahead of the red train. The passengers on the green train cheered and celebrated their victory, while those on the red train grumbled and complained about their loss.

In Season 14 of the Hellmouth Cup the ATL.png Atlanta Glitter Sharks became the Quitter Sharks and quit the Hot Water division. They were replaced by the BB.png Boylston Boogers .

This came as a great shock to the AA.png Alewife Arsonists , also in the Hot Water division, as the two teams are lifelong frenemies. The Boogers hail from the Boylston Street station on the Green Line of the Boston Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) system, while the Arsonists hail from the Alewife station. The two immediately established the MTA Crown as the seasonal competition between the two teams.

The two teams have been connected for their entire existence, and both teams' fan bases are from Boston. As a result, the traditions and stories around the MTA Crown involve in-jokes, niche cultural references, and a constant barrage of references to the "glory days" of the respective teams. Most aspects of the rivalry are poorly understood by outsiders. Ironically, however, despite their shared traditions, common home team, and in-jokes that only they get, fans and players of Alewife and Boylston will fight like cats and dogs if left unattended.
