Both the San Jose Avionics and Santa Cruz Bananas had been dubbed the Choke Artists of the Peninsula League, in reference to being the only teams who had never been to a Pseudo Cup (except the Seaside Swashbucklers, who were incinerated). The San Jose Avionics were known as the San Francisco Bay Choke Artists, and the Santa Cruz Bananas were known as the Monterey Bay Choke Artists.

During the Season 7 Dragon Cup Series, both Choke Artists made it to the League Championship Series, to play for the pennant. Many fans expected a Double Choke - when two Choke Artists both choke in the penultimate series and fail to clinch the pennant. However, the Avionics and Bananas shocked the world with a Double Unchoke - with both Choke Artists clinching the pennant and heading to the championship series. The San Jose Avionics prevailed in a dramatic seven-game series.
