Delaware Torches Detroit refers to the Klein/Season 2 League Championship Series, widely considered one of the most dramatic League Championship Series in the entire history of Golly. In the first 3 games of the best-of-7 series, the
Delaware Corporate Shells
were completely dominated by the
Detroit Grape Chews
, who completely shut out the Shells in the first game, and won by margins of victory of 90% or more in each game. The Chews were looking to finally break their curse, clinch a pennant, and show their faces in a Cup game after over a hundred seasons of failure.
In Game 4 (
d9d6a129-1d9c-4ae5-8913-73fb77141107), the Shells managed to knock the Chews back on their heels, achieving a Triple Double in their first victory. The Shells took another victory and another Triple Double in Game 5 (
c8a93a92-7ad0-4f45-b29d-9341ea2f1ece). In Game 6 (
c8c9c4e5-00af-410d-9483-ba6b15876a22), the Shells and Chews battled back and forth for 11,453 generations, with the Shells finally wrestling the Chews into submission with a third Triple Double in as many games.
The Shells overpowered the Chews in the final game of the series, sealing the greatest Championship Series comeback in Golly history, clinching the Hot League pennant, and sending the Shells to the Klein Cup, where they beat the
Seattle Sneakers
in 5 games.
Many Choke Artist scholars and Golly historians consider this Championship series to be the single greatest choke of all time.
