The Cali Crown is one of the most storied and intense rivalries in all of Golly. It is between the Northern California big city primadonnas, the San Francisco Boat Shoes, and their meek, obeisant neighbors at the state capital, the Sacramento Boot Lickers.

Season 3 Fixing Scandal

Main: Season 3/Fixing Scandal

During Season 3 the Boot Lickers had the humiliation of having to wear the Cali Crown while watching their rivals the San Francisco Boat Shoes win the hellmouth Cup against the Elko Astronauts. However, the newly-crowned champion San Francisco Boat Shoes were quickly ensnared in scandal.

As the circumstances around the Boat Shoes' victory came into question, the Sacramento Boot Lickers remained largely silent on the matter in public. However, several news outlets reported on back channels opened by the Boot Lickers to help direct legal firepower and financial backing for the lawsuit that the entire Golly league filed against the San Francisco Boat Shoes.

When the Boat Shoes called out the Boot Lickers to come clean on the matter of financial backing for lawsuits against the Boat Shoes, the Boot Lickers responded by calling out the Boat Shoes to return their tainted Hellmouth Cup. The matter remains unsettled but is no longer disputed publicly.

Season 4 Boot Lickers Bankruptcy

Main: Season 4/Sacramento Boot Lickers Bankruptcy

Following the contentious events of Season 3, the Boot Lickers went on to win their division in Season 4 with a late-series run for the playoffs, and went all the way, winning the championship against the Long Beach Flightless Birds.

However, the Boot Lickers went bankrupt following the championship victory, in a rapid descent that left the Boat Shoes feeling almost sympathetic. Their sympathy evaporated after losing the Cali Crown to the Boot Lickers two more years in a row.
