The Hellmouth V Cup era was a long, painful drought for the Tucson Butchers , a period that came to be known as "The Years in the Desert." The Blood Monsoon had dried up, leaving them wandering in a barren wasteland, their knives dull and unsharpened. All they had left was their mixtape. The losses to Salt Lake Turbulence , Albuquerque Solarpunks , and Elko Astronauts were slow, agonizing declines of a once-feared predator struggling to hunt. The Butchers were lost, wandering through the desert, listening to their mixtape, praying for a Rain of Blood.

The seasons of wandering were not without purpose. In their desperation, the Butchers were eventually driven to seek help from a most unlikely ally: their bitter rivals, the Phoenix Freshrolls. A strange new alliance was on the horizon, a desperate gambit to bring back the rain.
