The Private Eye Crown is an anti-rivalry-turned-rivalry between two Peninsula League teams, the 
Aptos Investigators
and the 
Carmel Yacht Club
.
The rivalry has had a significant negative effect on the Yacht Club's performance. In seasons when they lose the Crown to the Investigators, they are bitter and grumble about it endlessly; in seasons when they win the Crown and come out ahead of the Investigators, they shut themselves up, carrying the Crown with them everywhere, talking to it during meals, ignoring everyone else around them, and constantly scheming new ways of sabotaging the Investigators to maintain their hold on the Crown.
The Investigators are not particularly concerned with capturing the Crown, but they enjoy tormenting the Yacht Club, and the Investigators are very good at holding on to the Crown once they've won it.

History
Private Eye Crown in the Pseudo Cup
Formation of the Private Eye Crown
Relations between the Carmel Yacht Club
and the Aptos Investigators
started off well early in the Pseudo Cup. The Yacht Club hired the Investigators to be staff detectives working at the Yacht Club's golf course. From Pseudo/Season 1 through Pseudo/Season 5, the two teams had a positive working relationship, and the Carmel Yacht Club bought won the majority of games played between each team in each season. The Yacht Club viewed the arrangement as being conveniently run under the table, and saw no need to drag the Commissioner into things by filing formal paperwork to create a new Crown.
In Pseudo/Season 6, the Investigators and Yacht Club faced off in the first round of the postseason, the Egalitarian Eight. The Aptos Investigators
beat the Carmel Yacht Club
in 4 games. The Yacht Club, believing themselves to be entitled as the paying client to win the majority of games played between the two teams every year, including the postseason, were shocked, and sued for breach of contract immediately following the loss. In response to the suit, the Investigators counter-sued claiming reckless endangerment. When the Yacht Club sued in retaliation for the counter-suit, the Investigators sued again for emotional damages from lawsuits.
All lawsuits were dropped when the Commissioner stepped in and demanded the two teams stop being a bunch of crybabies and work out their issues on the grid, and threatened to kick both teams out of the league unless they filed necessary paperwork to formalize their rivalry. Thus was born the Private Eye Crown.
Pseudo Cup Postseason Outcome
The initial postseason meeting of the Carmel Yacht Club
and Aptos Investigators
in Pseudo/Season 6/Postseason, which resulted in a stunning defeat of the Yacht Club by the Investigators, a series of lawsuits, and the formation of the Private Eye Crown, was only the first Elite Eight meeting between the two teams. They would end up meeting five times in the Elite Eight. In each of the five meetings, the Aptos Investigators
defeated the Carmel Yacht Club
.
Five postseason series wins in five postseason series gave the Investigators the moral high ground in the rivalry. At the end of the Pseudo Cup, the Aptos Investigators
formed a shell company called Aptos Investigators Owned The Carmel Yacht Club LLC and were corporate sponsors of the Carmel Yacht Club charity golf tournament, which is why every poster, program, billboard, flyer, and advertisement about the golf tournament contained text at the end saying "Aptos Investigators Owned The Carmel Yacht Club."
