Dragon Shock

From Golly.Life Wiki

The Dragon Shock refers to the spectacular and instantaneous collapse of the MVM.png Mountain View Miners cryo-currency scheme, which left the Miners penniless and unable to reach the postseason. The Dragon Shock forced the Miners to dissolve and send all of their players to other teams, replacing them with cheaper store-brand versions and ensuring the Miners would spend the next two dozen seasons "rebuilding."

Details

During the Pseudo Cup, the MVM.png Mountain View Miners established a Dynasty and became known as one of the most formidable teams in the Peninsula League. But while many admired them, nobody respected them, because of their constant whining about lack of media attention, and their constant blathering about their hot new cryo-currency investment scheme. When the Miners' cryo-currency value mysteriously skyrocketed and the Miners instantly became mega-millionaires, they also instantly became the most reviled team in Golly. As the Pseudo Cup gave way to the Dragon Cup, the Miners found themselves rich and friendless.

In the midst of Season 1 of the Dragon Cup, a series of seemingly harmless pranks pulled on the Miners led, for various reasons, to the rapid collapse of the Miners' cryo-currency, leaving the Miners penniless. The Miners had used their cryo-currency to pay for a new stadium complex, fans had paid for their tickets in cryo-currency, and the ink was barely dry on new branding deals when the cryo-currency value collapsed.

The MVM.png Mountain View Miners organization was aggressively dismantled and its pieces sold off before Dragon/Season 2 began; most players went to other Peninsula League teams. Each player on the Miners team was replaced with a generic and substantially cheaper store-brand Miner.
