By Toroidal/Season 20, there was much chatter and buzz around the league about a possible new Choke Artist being announced: the
Seattle Sneakers
. The Sneakers, eager to shrug off talk of a Mariner's Curse, and thirsty for a Cup series victory, knew that they would have to bear their greatest burden to get the team across the finish line. The Sneakers delivered, with a sweep of the
Phoenix Freshrolls
in the first round, a sweep of the
Elko Astronauts
in the second round, and an efficient 5-game victory over the
Orlando Business Majors
. In the final moments of that game, the Sneakers had seen the Commissioner appear to them like an apparition, and present them with a choice: Cake or Death?
The Sneakers chose cake, the Commissioner disappeared back into the ether, and the celebrations continued. Only later did they learn that the
Baltimore Texas
had been present with the remaining option, Or Death, and was subsequently incinerated as part of the Cancel Texas Memo, which teams now celebrate with Ten Ten, etc.
Over time, there came to be a certain degree of respect afforded teams who had been involved in the incineration of the Texas. This informal ranking was later studied and formalized by Goober Boylston in a "Boylston on Boylston Violence" column. The ranking was dubbed the Texas Murder Coalition, and consists of teams who participated in the postseason bracket of Toroidal/Season 20, directly or indirectly, and who as a consequence led to the Seattle Sneakers winning the Toroidal Cup, being presented with the choice of Cake or Death, and leaving the Baltimore Texas to their fate of Or Death.
The list, in order of culpability:
