Midwest Crown and Rivalry with Detroit Grape Chews
Main: Midwest Crown
Hellmouth Cup
The rivalry between the
Detroit Grape Chews
and the Milwaukee Flamingos is a long and storied rivalry. At the start of the Hellmouth Cup, the rivalry was considered one of the three Crown Jewels of Golly rivalries. On-field fistfights during Grape Chews-Flamingos matches were more intense and resulted in far more injuries than fistfights between the Grape Chews and any other team.
However, as the Hellmouth Cup progressed, the rivalry became much more one-way, with the Detroit Grape Chews building much of their team identity around the rivalry, but the Milwaukee Flamingos losing interest in the rivalry. The Flamingos have cited a desire to establish their own identity as a benevolent flock of birds, and distance themselves from the Grape Chews. It is a well-known fact that Milwaukee Flamingos players have never gotten into a single fistfight outside of their matches with the Detroit Grape Chews.
The Valentines Day Series
The Season 9 and Season 10 Hellmouth Cup saw the Flamingos and the
Tucson Butchers
fall deeply into a messy, complicated anti-rivalry, which many historians agree was the genesis of their increasing indifference about the rivalry and increasing coldness toward the Detroit Grape Chews.
The Grape Chews, unable to find healthy outlets for their aggression, and rejected by their closest rivals, began manifesting their rejection by consistently choking in important postseason games, and collected zero pennants in 24 seasons of the Hellmouth Cup.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Flamingos successfully established a dynasty and their own unique identity as one of the strongest teams in the Hot League.
The rivalry has grown more intense with time, as the Flamingos have become increasingly cold toward the Grape Chews and increasingly benevolent toward the rest of the league, which leads the Grape Chews to feel slighted, intensifying their aggression toward the Flamingos. Reports that the Flamingos were developing a new and intense anti-rivalry with the
Tucson Butchers
fanned the flames further.
In Season 10 the Milwaukee Flamingos raced to reach the postseason and face off with their new anti-rivals, the Tucson Butchers, while the Grape Chews were unable to focus throughout the season and had a disappointing performance, failing to reach the postseason for only the second time in ten seasons.

Season 9 Snowbird Series and Anti-Rivalry with Tucson Butchers
Main: Season 9#Snowbird Series
Being in the Hot League, the Milwaukee Flamingos have primarily only faced other Hot League teams. In Season 5, however, the Flamingos made it to the Hellmouth Cup, where they faced off against the
Elko Astronauts
. Word of the Flamingos' benevolence spread fast through the Cold League, including to the
Tucson Butchers
, the anti-rivals of the Astronauts, who heard stories about Flamingos who were fun-loving, compulsive gamblers, and dreamed of one day getting to meat the Flamingos.
In Season 9 the
Milwaukee Flamingos
and
Tucson Butchers
finally faced off in the Hellmouth Cup, in a matchup dubbed the "Snowbird Series". The two teams fell deeply and instantly into a messy, complicated, inter-tangled anti-rivalry. Both teams finished the season eager to meet their anti-rivals on the grid again.
