The Detroit Grape Chews have been in the league since Season 1.

The Grape Chews have earned the nickname The Masters of Choke because, while they consistently make the playoffs, they have never appeared in, let alone won, a Hellmouth Cup series.

• In Season 1 the Grape Chews were the #2 seed in the Hot League, but were knocked out in the Championship Series by the San Francisco Boat Shoes
• In Season 2 the Grape Chews were the #3 seed in the Hot League, but were knocked out in the Division Series by the Orlando Business Majors
• In Season 3 the Grape Chews were the #1 seed in the Hot League, but were knocked out in the Championship Series by the San Francisco Boat Shoes
• In Season 4 the Grape Chews were the #2 seed in the Hot League, but were knocked out in the Championship Series by the Sacramento Boot Lickers

The Grape Chews are best known for their propensity for starting fistfights over virtually any perceived slight - Grape Chews players are known for their unique mix of aggression and thin skin. During games, it is common for fans of both teams to taunt Grape Chews who are on the grid in order to rile up the players and get them to start fistfights. This technique has never failed to provoke an on-field fistfight.

Arcana Interpretation

The arcana of the Grape Chews is the Blasted Tower - the symbol of ambition constructed on faulty premises. A fitting arcana for the team that is known as the Masters of Choke.

Midwest Crown and Milwaukee Flamingos Rivalry

The rivalry between the Detroit Grape Chews and the Milwaukee Flamingos is one of the most storied rivalries in all of Golly. Much of the Detroit Grape Chews' team identity has been formed from the rivalry, and evidence has shown that the on-field fistfights during Grape Chews-Flamingos matches are more intense and result in more injuries than fistfights between the Grape Chews and any other team.

The Milwaukee Flamingos have sought to establish an identity independent of the Grape Chews, as a benevolent flock of birds, which has led to increased tensions and an intensification of the rivalry. After their rivals won the Hellmouth Cup in Season 9, Grape Chews players become pathologically obsessed with the Milwaukee Flamingos, and the Grape Chews' performance suffered as a result - for only the second time in 10 seasons, the Grape Chews missed the playoffs.

Unlike the Grape Chews, however, the Flamingos have worked hard to establish their own identity as a benevolent flock of birds and distance themselves from the Grape Chews. While many of the Milwaukee Flamingos players sport the black eyes and broken teeth of their Midwest Crown rivals, Flamingos players have never been known to get into a single fistfight outside of their matches with the Detroit Grape Chews.

The rivalry has grown more intense with time, as the Flamingos have become increasingly cold toward the Grape Chews and increasingly benevolent toward the rest of the league, which leads the Grape Chews to feel slighted, intensifying their aggression toward the Flamingos.

After the Milwaukee Flamingos won the Hellmouth Cup in Season 9, it was reported that Grape Chews players became obsessed with their rivals, the Flamingos, talking about nothing else in the clubhouse. Their performance in Season 10 suffered, and for only the second time in history the Grape Chews did not make the playoffs.
